Endeavour Student Exchange Program


Under the Program, Australian higher education institutions receive funding to subsidise the cost of their establishing and monitoring, and of undergraduate students’ participation in, eligible student exchanges with registered higher education institutions in certain countries.

Eligible student exchanges will include provision for tuition fee waiver and credit transfer.

The geographic spread of the awards is Jordan in the west, through to Japan in the east and down to Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific.

In-coming international exchange students will be sourced from the following countries:

Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Vietnam, Yemen.

Out-going Australian students may study in the following countries:

Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Vietnam, Yemen.

Supported students are required to study full-time and for at least one semester and a maximum of two semesters in a counterpart institution under institution-to-institution student exchange arrangements.

Eligible student exchanges include provision for tuition fee waiver and credit transfer.  Australian higher education institutions receive A$5,000 (excluding GST) per exchange student to subsidise the cost of that student’s participation in an eligible student exchange.  Staff visits subsidies of A$1,500 (excluding GST) per staff visit are also available.

Under the Program, successful institutions are required to enter into funding contracts with DEEWR and fulfil standard reporting requirements under these contracts. 

For funding provided in the 2008 and subsequent funding rounds, successful institutions will be required to enter data on the DEEWR Endeavour Student Exchanges Online (ESEO) system to meet the reporting requirements and acquit the funding provided.  

For funding provided in the 2007 and earlier funding rounds, a Completion Report proforma and a statutory declaration proforma are available for download, to assist participating institutions meet the reporting requirements under the contracts.
