We are very excited to announce that the Endeavour Awards Alumni Network (EAAN) website is now available for Endeavour Alumni!
The EAAN website is an exciting, interactive initiative that allows Endeavour Alumni to communicate with one another and with the Endeavour Awards team at DEEWR. Major features enable Endeavour Alumni to:
- View and register for events
- Search for other Alumni and send them messages
- Add other Alumni to their‘contact list’
- Update their profiles, including contact information, biographies, images, work and study histories
- Access the latest news from the Endeavour Awards team and interesting and relevant news from around the world
Phase two of the EAAN website (due for release later in 2009) will include even more features to help Alumni stay in touch and increase their international networks! In addition, feedback on the first release will help us to further develop and improve the website so that it becomes and even greater tool for the Endeavour Awards community.
In March and April of 2009, all Endeavour Awards Alumni will receive a ‘welcome pack’ in the mail containing all the information they need to get started on the website.
For current Award Holders or those of you about to commence your Endeavour Award, you can look forward to accessing this great website and other fantastic benefits of the Endeavour Awards Alumni Network when you successfully complete your Award.

Previous events
To coincide with the opening of applications for the 2009 round of Endeavour Awards, a series of seminars were delivered in each capital city in Australia for representatives of home and host organisations as well as other interested organisations and individuals. At the same time, DEEWR hosted a function for our alumni and award holders, together wit other invited guests. These were a wonderful opportunity for the award holders and alumni to meet with each other, and with the Endeavour Awards team. Below are some photos of the events.
Beverley Loke (Singapore) - 2007 Endeavour Asia Award
"I vividly remember the day I received word that I was a successful Endeavour Asia Award recipient. It was a defining moment which enabled me to pursue a Master of Arts in the Department of International Relations at the Australian National University (ANU). Throughout my one and a half years there, I was deeply impressed by the intellectual rigour of the faculty as well as their stimulating delivery of course material.
In addition, the different and often contending perspectives brought out through the students’ diverse backgrounds made for great debates, whether they were on the nature of international order, international humanitarian assistance in conflict zones or the purposes of American power.
Building on the rich theoretical and empirical focus of the coursework component, my dissertation investigated the conceptual interplay between national interest and international responsibility in China’s foreign policy in Sudan and accessed the implications for China’s burgeoning global role in international politics. I was also given the opportunity to present my paper at the Third Oceanic Conference on International Studies at the University of Queensland, a nerve wrecking but highly rewarding experience!
Of course, life’s enriching experiences should also move beyond the confines of the academic classroom. For me, this involved being a student representative within the Masters programme, attending kickboxing lessons, hosting dinner parties and enjoying countless mochas with friends in one of the many cafés on campus.
Whilst having previously completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne, it was a pleasure to return to Australia because one discovers myriad new experiences even in places that may seem somewhat familiar. I was able to travel and explore new sights in Australia that I had formerly never been to and make enduring friendships that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
Indeed, watching the sunrise from the most easterly point of the Australian mainland at the Byron Bay lighthouse, camping under the stars near Uluru and lying on the white sands of Murrays Beach in the Booderee National Park in the company of great friends are just some of the special moments that I will always remember.
Looking back, the Endeavour Award offered me the opportunity not just to fulfil my academic pursuits but also to broaden my horizon and grow as a person. Following the completion of an internship at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, I will soon be returning to the ANU for a PhD in International Relations".
